Natural Childbirth Classes and HypnoBirthing

Many childbirth classes do not adequately prepare women to actively, confidently, and joyfully give birth. Instead, they train women to be passive, compliant patients. Many couples "graduate" from their "prepared" childbirth classes feeling anxious and fearful and still very much unprepared. These classes are FUN. They are dynamic, informative, irreverent, entertaining and empowering. They are taught with enthusiasm and heart. They are never, never, boring!

Classes include information on:
  • Creating a positive birth experience and following your natural birthing instincts
  • Choosing care providers and the place of birth
  • Natural childbirth - why bother, what's all the fuss, etc.
  • Medical interventions - their consequences and appropriate uses
  • Cesarean prevention
  • Techniques of deep relaxation to achieve a safer, easier and more comfortable birth
  • The source of the myth that pain is a necessary accompaniment to labor
  • How your body is designed to create its own natural anesthesia
  • How you and your companion can create a birthing environment that is calm, serene, and joyful
  • To birth with confidence, calm, and comfort
  • Other techniques to produce a shorter and more comfortable birth experience
  • How the mother's body is designed to work in neuromuscular harmony with nature throughout labor
  • Birthing Techniques to bring your baby into the world consciously and without violence
  • VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)
  • Complications and emergencies - how to prevent them and what to do if you have one
  • Postpartum, Breastfeeding, Raising Healthy Children, and Becoming a Family
  • Prenatal Care and Nutrition
  • Parenting in the new millennium and much, much more.

Through pictures, song, slides, and demonstrations, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about birth and newborn babies. this class is appropriate for children who will be present at birth, as well as for those who will meet their new sister or brother soon after. A snack will be served.

Grieving and Healing After a Disappointing, Upsetting, or Traumatic Birth Experience

How women integrate their childbearing experiences into their lives affects how they feel about themselves, hoe they "live in their bodies", how the "walk in the world", and how they mother -- for the rest of their lives. This workshop will assist women who are grieving about a distressing birth experience. It will help them to move toward increased self-esteem, empowerment, and wholeness.

This seminar is relevant for women who are grieving or working through a traumatic birth, and for childbirth educators, midwives, nurses, family members, friends, counselors, and other interested in birthing women and families.

Birth Day's Monthly Open House!

Come on, time to show off your baby, offspring, or belly if you're pregnant! Let us see how he/she/they/you have grown - or shrunk, as the case may be! Come and spend a few hours relaxing (remember what that is?), drinking (juice, herbal teas, and water that is), socializing, bragging (this is the place to do it!), and talking about birthing, nursing, pregnancy, parenting... whatever!

The Open House is held on the third Thursday of each month from 11am-2pm. WHAT TO BRING: yourself, your pregnant belly, your children, friends and family
Important: Please call each month before you come to make sure that the open house will be held as scheduled. If you hear a regular message, come along. If you hear "I am at a birth", do not come - the open house will be postponed until the following month.
